The Hampshire Hoppit – Brief Update

With just over 2-weeks until race day, our organisation and planning is now in full swing. For example, your Hoppit glasses have arrived today, see photo! One for every finisher.

Here are a few points that I wanted to raise prior to publishing the racer briefing pack:-

We will not be mailing the race numbers (as per the 2021 race), instead we will be reverting to collection on the day.
We plan to issue the racer briefing pack with full race details on Friday 3 June, available to view from our website or by email.

It’s not too late to enter our Go Farther trophy, for any Mum or Dad entering the same race as their son or daughter. Please advise your family details on registration (there is a field to complete), or by using the Contact Us form on the website.

We are still slightly short of course volunteers, so perhaps, if you are local, you might be able to offer friends or family that can support you as you run past? If you are interested, or would like to learn more, please email tim.fowler@hotmail.co.uk

Entries are still open! If you know of others that might like to run our race on 12 June 2022, please send them a link to our website at https://hampshiretrailmarathon.co.uk/.

Tuesday 19th May – Online Store Closed

The Hoppit Tee-Shirt and Vest online store is now closed, and the orders have been placed with the supplier. For those that have missed out, we hope to have a few spare stock for sale on the day, details to follow.

Course Alteration to Half Marathon

The primary focus for the Hampshire Hoppit is runner safety, and with that in mind we are pleased to announce a small variation to the Half Marathon route that will avoid running 700 metres of main road at Mile 3.

With thanks to the landowner at Middleton & Portway Estates, we will have access to a farm track that is alongside the 700m road route. The track itself is runnable, using tractor tracks (that are not rutted), see photo.
There will be traffic Stop/Go boards (managed by Chevron Traffic Management) to control the road crossing point at the end of the farm track when the runners head towards Willesley Warren Farm.

Please note that this land access is exclusive to the Hampshire Hoppit on race day, and it will revert to private land at all other times.

The Paula Tait Local Legend Trophy

Announcing the PAULA TAIT Local Legend Trophy…

Recently, one of our regular Hampshire Hoppit runners, Paula Tait, sadly passed away following a short illness. A local runner based in Kingsclere and often seen running in and around Newbury, Paula had competed in all of our half marathon races since the inaugural race in 2016. She was well known and much loved, she was a great character with a lovely personality and she will be greatly missed.

Paula’s family would like to recognise her enthusiasm for The Hampshire Hoppit by sponsoring a trophy that recognises the Hoppit achievement of local runners, and with that in mind I am delighted to announce the PAULA TAIT LOCAL LEGEND TROPHY.

This will be awarded as a renewing perpetual trophy (i.e. engraved and retained for a year, before being returned for awarding in subsequent years). The award will be to the first runner that finishes The Hampshire Hoppit half marathon, that has an address in the postcodes RG20, RG14, and RG19. There will be 2 awards – male/female in the half marathon.

Hoppit Tee Shirt and Vest update!

Please note that the tee shirts and vests will be on white material this year, instead of the blue that had been previously advertised. There have been stock issues at our supplier.

Each tee or vest will have a Hoppit motif on the front, and the back will have the course map! We hope that you like it, and by purchasing you will be supporting our nominated charity,  Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. The price is £12. Collection of all pre-purchased tees and vests will be from the Race HQ on race day.

Attached are photos of the generic tee and vest design (male/female) from the supplier (not shown in white!), and also the Hoppit images that will be added (front and back).

The tees and vests can be purchased when entering the Hoppit, or (if you have already entered and not yet purchased) they can be ordered independently from the online store here: https://register.enthuse.com/ps/event/TheHampshireHoppitTShirts2022

Announcing our Hampshire Hoppit prizes for 2022

We are pleased to announce that each of our 2022 Hoppit prize-winners will receive a personalised engraved Hurricane candle holder from Dartington Glass. It will create a relaxed evening atmospheric light after your tough endeavours during the race. It has been suggested that perhaps it could be something to have in the bathroom with the lights low, as you soak away the muscle aches, and with quiet music playing in the background!
It is handmade using the finest glass and carefully shaped by expert craftsmen. It has the brand name Wibble, which has been derived as a result of the distinctive ribbing around the base of the candle holder which adds an attractive optical effect.

The overall winners (male/female and half/full marathon) will receive the large Hurricane glass (290mm), as will the winners of the Go Farther trophy (mum/dad and half/full marathon). The other categories (2nd, 3rd, and V40, V50, V60) will receive the medium (200mm). All trophies will be engraved with the Hoppit logo and prize category.

We hope you like it – and Good Luck to all our aspiring top runners on race day!
